| If you're taking your mobile phone on holiday check out the following guidelines before you leave: |

- Arrange for your Network provider to enable your mobile phone for 'International roaming' - which can take up to 14 days
- Some Countries require different handsets than those commonly used in the UK so check with your Network provider - for example, if you are travelling to America you will need a tri-band handset
- See how much International roaming will cost you as calls are much more than those made within the UK
- Ask your Network provider if there are any deals available to you for overseas travel with your mobile, and if there is a choice of tariffs available as one may be better suited to your needs than another

| Network providers can offer cheaper calls abroad for a monthly fee. Check with your provider to see how much this would cost you and for how long you would have to be tied into the contract for. |

If you don't want to, or are unable, to change tariffs you could consider using an alternative International SIM card.
You can buy International SIM cards for use on foreign networks at most International airports and some UK retailers. Some cards do have an expiry date so check this date isn't before you travel. |

| And don't forget to take an electrical adapter for your mobile phone charger if you are taking your handset with you. |

Once you've arrived at your overseas destination simply turn your mobile phone on as usual (when allowed to do so). Your phone will then be locked onto a local transmitter which will route your calls from overseas to the UK.
For example, if you are holidaying in France your mobile will still think it's in Britain. So, should you call another UK based phone that's also holidaying in France your call will be routed via the UK, which is a huge 1,800 mile round trip for just a short distance away.
As taking your mobile phone on holiday can be costly do take the above advice on carefully choosing the right overseas option for you. |

Before you take your mobile phone on holiday make a separate note of your mobile's serial number/IMEI number, along with your own mobile telephone number and the telephone number of your Network provider's customer services (including UK dialling code).
This way, if your phone is stolen, or you lose it, you'll be able to contact your Network provider in the UK to block your phone and/or SIM card. |
